PR Strategy for Services Design Solution Ltd

Services Design Solution Ltd returned victorious from the prestigious Young Engineers Awards presented annually by The Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers. Building mechanical and electrical engineering consultancy Services Design Solution (SDS) not only won their category of Small Business Employer of the Year but also took the coveted overall title of Employer of the Year 2015, beating national and international companies. Purpol were approached to develop the PR Strategy to support this exceptional news.

The company, whose head office is in Plymouth, with further offices in Exeter and Bristol, were nominated for the awards held at The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, in London, last month, following their ‘excellent commitment made to the development of young engineers’.

SDS wanted to maximise the opportunity presented by the awards and contacted Purpol Marketing to generate a PR strategy that included bespoke releases for both regional and national media.

Managing Directors Shaun Hoppins and Richard Johns, who founded SDS ten years ago, appreciated that the awards were a credit to their team’s advancement of training and development initiatives and the hard work of their apprentices and graduates. They wanted to make as much noise as possible about the achievement.

Shaun said: “As a small consultancy it was extremely rewarding to win CIBSE’s Employer of the Year award for our business category and astounding to win the overall category against prestigious national and international practices.”

SDS employ around 50 staff and specialise in the design of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical and public health systems for projects ranging from offices, airports, defence establishments and historic structures.

Following a telephone interview the releases were generated in proof for approval. Purpol also arranged for a professional local photographer to attend the SDS offices to capture various images of the team. SDS then approved two versions of the press release regarding their recent award win and Using Purpol’s PR associate network, the story was circulated to regional and national media.
