Taylor Carey – Blog week 5

This week has given me the opportunity to continue expanding my knowledge across a variety of areas from environmental sustainability, bid writing and business psychology.
I started this week by working with my sister to create a collection of inspirational quotes for the launch of WINNER that is launching on the 7th of September. The aim was to create positive messages that people could take away from the event as a reminder to keep believing in themselves to achieve success, even if their business is struggling. I enjoyed helping with something that is designed to spread confidence, positivity and encouragement. I hope that the messages will inspire resilience.
I completed the Net Zero course, which introduced me to the principles behind achieving net zero emissions and why it is becoming important for businesses and especially those businesses in the construction sector. The course explained the legislation surrounding net zero emissions, responsibilities that organisations have and how many businesses are actively working towards lowering their environmental impact. It highlighted that reaching net zero is a journey that many organisations need to commit to in order to make a difference. It surprised me that businesses that demonstrate a commitment to a more sustainable future actually gain a strong reputation that employees and customers enjoy associating with.
I watched a recording of the Winning Bid live seminar, which built upon my previous learning about bid writing. One of the key lessons was that before committing to a bid, businesses should assess whether they have the time and resources to create a high-quality submission that will succeed. It emphasised the importance of using
client testimonials and evidence to demonstrate excellence, rather than relying on self-praise. Hearing positive feedback directly from customers carries far more weight and helps build trust with the
