Business Owner Offers Free Online Career Course to Support Young People into Work

Young people across the UK are being offered free access to an online career course designed to help them build confidence and take their first steps into employment.

Denise O’Leary MBE, founder of Purpol Marketing, has announced that her ‘Kickstart My Career’ course is now completely free to access and suitable for students and adults aged 14 and above. The course, which has already supported hundreds of learners, was originally created by a group of young people aged 16–24 who took part in the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.

“So many young people are struggling to find their first job or apprenticeship opportunity,” said Denise. “This course was built by those who’ve been in that position, and I’m proud to make it available at no cost to help even more students.”

The initiative addresses a growing concern: young people are entering the workforce with limited access to real-life experience or practical job-seeking skills – a challenge made worse by the pandemic. The course provides a structured, supportive environment to build workplace readiness, delivered in a flexible online format.

1.        Understanding strengths and building a personal brand

2.        Writing CVs, cover letters, and professional emails

3.        Applying for jobs and handling rejection

4.        Interview skills using the STAR technique

5.        Communication, confidence, and workplace behaviours

6.        Using feedback, volunteering, and developing new skills

The Kickstart My Career course is:

•          Self-paced and online, suitable for students aged 14+

Denise supported 229 young people during the Kickstart programme over a 22-month period, with the very first cohort contributing directly to the development of the course content.
