Taylor Carey – Marketing Assistant Blog Week 1

Posted on July 16, 2026 by Categories: Uncategorized

Starting my journey as a Marketing Assistant at Purpol Marketing on the 6th of July 2026, has given me the opportunity to gain and develop new skills whilst obtaining an insight into marketing.

My first week began with a Zoom meeting, where I learned how to use the different tools provided and share my screen, which will become vital further into the future. I had never used Zoom before, so this was a completely new experience and being taught how to use this app has made me feel more confident with potentially presenting documents and contributing to future calls.

I completed the Kickstart My Career course, which helped me strengthen my CV and application writing as the course was written by interns with heavy amounts of experience and feedback. The course went through the application process, how to create a professional profile, the interview process and the next steps. The course was an astounding learning experience, as I have not experienced these processes myself and therefore was very educating. I learnt that asking for feedback when getting denied for a job is vital to improve in the future.

I also created my LinkedIn profile to document my journey and research successful accounts to better understand personal branding. Putting information about yourself and having a profile picture makes the account more valuable to future employers, as they are able to get an insight into the type of person you are.

Completing the Magnificent Marketing course broadened my understanding of businesses and how to improve as an organisation through marketing techniques. I learnt that maintaining customers is more valuable than gaining new customers, which surprised me as they are both buying the product/service. By identifying the customers as a group, the business can become more appealable to the intended range of people. SWOT analysis is helpful for businesses because identifying weaknesses and threats means that the business can improve. Identifying opportunities can help the business prioritise factors of the business such as recognition and value.

I explored Canva and Canva AI tools to produce graphics and templates to promote future products. I have never used Canva before, so this was a new experience. I viewed the different tools and techniques Canva provides to create eye-catching graphics. I undermined how difficult creating high-quality graphics would be. This led me to face some challenges that I overcame with patience and resilience.

I also developed a whitepaper which showed me how to subtly promote a product whilst presenting a problem. I had never thought about this type of writing before, but I realised how persuasive whitepapers can be, as the reader is already presented with the solution to their problem.

Looking back on my first week, I have gained many skills with apps and insights with marketing. I have learnt numerous new lessons in marketing as I have not experienced this type of work before. I am very grateful for the opportunities presented to me and can’t wait for the future.
